Robert Stillman Double Album Launch

You are invited to the launch party for not one, but two new Robert Stillman records. Robert will be playing live versions of pieces from both ‘Portals’, and ‘What Does it Mean to be American?’. He will also be supported by a solo set from bass maestro Tom Herbert, and DJ sets from the Kit Records team.

When Robert Stillman’s not playing sax with Dave Okumu, Tom Skinner and friends, he’s adding to a body of solo work that takes in elements of jazz, drone, funk, blues, psychedelia, new age & chamber music.
Jointly released by London’s Kit Records, and Orindal Records out of Chicago, Robert’s latest record, ‘What Does It Mean to Be American?’, expresses a national identity crisis with all the pathos and exaltation of the artist’s homeland. This is a record of contradictions, veering between angular funk, dubbed out piano blues and tender vocals laden with woodwind.

Second, it’s a pleasure to announce the first vinyl press of Robert’s much-loved, homespun collection of Fender Rhodes improvisations, ‘Portals’. Recorded to tape in the solitude of Robert’s Kent studio, Portals is truly a candid window into the trance-like process of making: melodies, ideas and themes are added, concealed and revealed like folds of paper and paint, combining to form an intimately transportive sonic mural.
