DJ Sotusura Residency in Hackney
Palestinian hiphop artist and vinyl collector Sotusura will be playing at two of East London’s hottest joints through November and December.
Artist, DJ and record collector Sotusura, will be bringing his fresh take on vintage Arab sounds to London for a four week residency at Finch Café & Servant Jazz Quarters.
Sotusura was one of the first people on the scene to start sampling and remixing the Arab archive. Born in France to Palestinian parents, Hicham Ibrahim moved to Jordan at age 12 where he grew up, influenced by his older siblings and friends taste in music. Listening to everything from Michael Jackson to Wu Tang and Public enemy, in 2000 he picked his first pair of turntables and from that point he went on to become one of the leading hip hop DJs in the Middle East under his alias Sotusura.
In 2019, Sotusura launched his debut album Saleh Elalhan featuring 16 instrumental beats all containing samples from artists like Abdel Halim, Oum Kolthoum, Fairuz, Warda, Najat and more, the product of years of crate digging, five months in the studio and a lifetime of hip hop influence.
