10A Sessions: Laura Groves + Fran Lobo

We are really excited to present our first 10A Sessions live with Laura Groves and Fran Lobo.

Laura Groves is an artist and producer born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and based in South London.

As a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, she explores themes of inner worlds, healing, connection, and imagined environments and real-life surroundings, though mixing traditional songwriting with experimental synthesised sounds, textural electronic layering, and a passion for home recording.

Following on from her work as Blue Roses on XL Recordings, Laura has released two EPs under her own name on DEEK Records, created with longtime collaborator Bullion – Thinking About Thinking (2013) and Committed Language (2015).

Along with her solo work and three-piece band, Nautic, Laura has built a reputation as a sought after collaborator, in both live and recorded settings, for the likes of Darkstar, Wilma Archer, Sampha, Westerman, Ragz Originale, The Paul Institute, Bat for Lashes, and Hannah Peel.

Laura is currently working on her next album.

Fran Lobo is a vocalist, producer and composer from North East London via India.

She is interested in exploring the human voice, classic songwriting and experimental production with a passion for personal and intimate storytelling.

Her work has been shown at the V&A, RA, Southbank Centre and Somerset House and has been acclaimed by publications from I-D to the Guardian, who said of her 2019 ‘Voicescolourmotion’ sound and light installation at Snape Maltings/V&A Museum ‘Close harmony, buoyant and sonorous disintegrated into raw noise gradually finding recovery and serene release’

She has worked extensively with choirs, notably in 2015 she conducted the Goldsmiths Vocal Ensemble for Floating Points’ Elaenia album launch at Islington Assembly Hall.  She has been a frequent collaborator with Unkle (James Lavelle) and Deep Throat Choir who recorded a collaborative album with Simian Mobile Disco in 2019 and are set to release their second album later in December this year.

Support for Fran’s music has come from DAZED, i-D, The FADER to Channel 4 Random Acts. It’s seen her support Matthew Herbert (Barbican), Joanne Robertson (Laylow), Okay Kaya (St Pancras Old Church) and play headline shows at club spaces Corsica Studios and Pickle Factory. In 2020, Fran released her EP ‘Brave’ on Slowdance Records which has seen a variety of support from Nemone (6 Music) to Trevor Jackson to Pete Tong. The EP picked up a lot of industry acclaim and was followed up by a remix EP from Loraine James, Junior XL (Lol K), Terror Peaks and Glows this Spring.
