The Vernon Spring + Carpetana
This show marks the start of another 3-gig residency at Servant Jazz Quarters for The Vernon Spring – a new solo project from Sam Beste. Throughout the residency Sam has been experimenting with material new and old in search of a sound that feels like home. This solo departure comes after many years of producing records with his band Hejira, soulstress Tawiah, string duo Fran & Flora and others, many of which are part of the Lima Limo collective he co-founded. Sam has also been in demand as a pianist for other artists including Amy Winehouse, Matthew Herbert, and most recently Leon Vynehall. This year he will be doing a series of shows at SJQ for The Vernon Spring, working the curatorial muscles he developed whilst running the club night TRAUM together with his Hejira bandmates.

Carpetana is the debut solo project from Milo Fitzpatrick, more known for his work in seminal jazz group Portico Quartet. Inspired by new wave and art-pop music such as Talking Heads and Arthur Russell, Carpetana continues to explore experimental form and texture through distorted synths, cello, pianos, and drums whilst offering a unique brand of insightful and playfully candid songs.
