Wandering Monster + Jack Yardley Quintet
Wandering Monster perform intricately arranged instrumental rock music which draws upon jazz sensibilities and sound worlds. Made up of five crossover musicians highly active on the northern scene, the group reach beyond what may be expected from the tried and tested line-up of the tenor saxophone/guitar quintet. Retaining the harmonic sophistication and improvisational approach of jazz, these influences are juxtaposed with the rhythmic complexity of modern rock and metal. The result is a sound that is intense and raucous, yet also dynamic, sensitive and spontaneous.
The group release their eponymous debut album on the Ubuntu Music label on 25/01/19 alongside a UK tour.
‘Thoughtful music; melodic, flowing and measured, with enough twists and turns to keep everyone engaged-‘ Mike Walker
Jack is the winner of the Help Musicians Postgraduate Jazz Award 2016 and was a scholarship recipient at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to which he graduated with a First Class Honours.
The quintet will be performing music influenced by a mix of Jack’s inspirations in recent years, ranging from Mark Guiliana to Ben Wendel. The band will also be exploring free improvisations throughout.
