Tobi Sunmola
Tobi is of Nigerian origin, but moved to Manchester at the age of sixteen in which his passion for music developed at his local youth centre studio. Receiving support from local press including the THE METRO and MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS, Tobi’s talent was supported from day one. Since this, the young artist has been named as MOBO’s ‘One to Watch’, as well as being championed by notable radio DJ’s including Huw Stephens and Mistajam.
Since emerging into the ever-competitive music scene, Tobi has worked with many legends in the game including Joe Hertz, Bipolar Sunshine and Wretch 32 to name a few.
Not one to put a limit on his success, Tobi is about to be one of the faces of the latest Reebok Classic Collective campaign alongside Lotto Boyzz and Snoochie Shy launching in JD stores across the UK and Europe in September 2018. As part of the campaign Tobi ran a workshop in Manchester on August 21st where one emerging artist was selected to perform alongside Tobi at the Reebok Classic Collective Party in London in December. Look out for the workshop highlights video featuring Tobi’s new single ‘Be My Lover’ coming soon.
Tobi says of first single ‘Be My Lover’, ‘The track is about love that is broken but it’s love regardless and that love keeps us connected”. He further explains of the video that accompanies the track, ‘the floating broken pieces of piano at my feet at the end is symbolic of the broken pieces of this love.’
It’s also a marker of the serious credentials of Manchester rap. Tobi tears open a hole in the scene and starkly makes his claim as one of the most genuinely exciting acts this year.
With the continued support from publications and his fans, Tobi has announced two headline shows; Manchester’s Soup Kitchen on 14th November and London’s Servant Jazz Quarters on 20th November.
