Happy Robots presents Rodney Cromwell

Melodic lo-fi synthpop from Catford’s Rodney Cromwell, promoting his ‘Memory Box’
album, as featured in Electronic Sound’s Albums of the Year. Support from Brooklyn based
electronic library-music artist Roman Angelos, and krautrock DJ’s Mood Taeg from
Düsseldorf

RODNEY CROMWELL of Happy Robots Records, Catford’s only exponent of haunting pound-shop electronica returns to London as part of his debut headline tour. His most recent album, the acclaimed ‘Memory Box,’ fused a European synthpop sensibility with a world of magical realism. Inspired as much by the literature of Alice in Wonderland and Franz Kafka as by its musical influences of classic new wave and synth artists like Kraftwerk, The Cure, Polyrock and the Factory Records rostra, the sonic pallet of ‘Memory Box’ is rich, colourful, often surprising and utterly unique. The album fully comes to life in the live space though as those that recently saw him supporting artists including A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS and BLANCMANGE can attest.

Support comes from ROMAN ANGELOS from Brooklyn, New York The project of Roman Angelos was invented as a vehicle for producer Rich Bennett to explore his obsession with library recordings of the 60’s and 70s. His two albums for Happy Robots were described as ‘a burst of sonic nostalgia’ and ‘insanely groovy’ by journalist Bob Fisher. Beyond the world of library electronica, Rich has been involved in a diverse group of musical projects, including the newly reunited outsider/60s proto-punk group THE SHAGGS and Brazilian funk group LIMONCELLO and east-coast shoegazers MAHOGANY. In the UK his fans include Stuart Maconie and Cerys Matthews on BBC6 Music.
