Fran & Flora presents… with Ursa Major Moving Group
Fran & Flora present the first in a 3 part series of performances at Servant Jazz Quarters, Dalston, with Ursa Major Moving Group.
Ursa Major Moving Group is the debut project of multi-instrumentalist, composer and writer Ursula Russell. Her forthcoming album is an intense and dynamic musical journal of a process of individuation, wherein songs are offered as myths for a new world. Tracing a constellation of various entangled characters as they perpetually transform and integrate separate parts of self within the context of a mechanised world, Ursula’s stories are a celebration of hyper-sensitivity as a vital technology for change. Her live performance is an experiment in remaining porous, often effecting a mystical conversation with the invisible world within the room.
Fran & Flora is a critically acclaimed and multi-award nominated experimental folk duo based in the UK comprised of Francesca Ter-Berg (cello/vocals) and Flora Curzon (violin/vocals). The duo is heavily influenced and inspired by the modes and melodies of Klezmer, Transylvanian, Romanian, Greek and Armenian music, as well as archival recordings, free improvisation and electronics.
Unfurl, the debut album by Fran & Flora was released in February 2019. Incorporating tunes and songs collected on their travels, the album was the culmination of three years studio work with producer Sam Beste (The Vernon Spring / Hejira) where they explored their aesthetic, experimenting with interweaving textures and layers, electronics and analogue processing. They are currently in the process of finishing their second album, due to be released in Autumn 2023.
Supported by Arts Council England the duo toured Unfurl in 2019 and early 2020, selling out venues including Kings Place and Cafe Oto (London), The Cube (Bristol), Cobalt Studios (Newcastle), Kitchen Garden Cafe (Birmingham), Shambala Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival, Shtetl Neukolln (Berlin), and Ancienne Belgique (Brussels).
