Happy Cycling: Cycle 9 with The Jaffa Kid
Happy Cycling is a low-key monthly music social created by a collaborative team of 4 labels – Kit Records, Cold Blow, Organic Analogue and Mythstery. The crew returns to the Servant Jazz Quarters for their 9th outing on Friday 18th November.
This month’s session is curated by Cold Blow, a Helsinki & London based label run by two Finnish music aficionados and old friends, Pete & Janne “J”. Their catalogue includes reissues of 90s British techno and house such as Dr. Rhythm, Liquid Son, E.M.U., as well as releases from the likes of Mono Junk and DMX Krew. We welcome special guest The Jaffa Kid to our club for an extended DJ set alongside Cold Blow founders Janne & Pete, and a live set from special guest Mücha.
Cult producer The Jaffa Kid hails from Newcastle, a prolific and experimental artist who has counted releases on Suction, Furthur Electronix, Deeptrax, AD 93’s Lith Dolina and more. His recent self-titled release on Cold Blow finds him on fine form, exploring a blend of hard-hitting atmospheric techno and ethereal braindance. Suffice to say our Kid does not normally do PA’s so this will be a very rare and exclusive opportunity to catch him behind the decks!
Amanda Butterworth – otherwise known as Mücha – makes dreamy, sometimes dark, analogue and digital songscapes that shimmer, challenge, and always tell a story. Her releases to date for her native London’s Blank Editions, Misc. and lauded Glasgow label Broken20, paint a picture of continuous expansion – sonic, thematic and methodological. We are thrilled to have Mücha joining us for one of her unique live performances.
Janne J is a Helsinkian DJ and co-founder of Cold Blow. While not curating the latest 90s techno and house reissues for his label, you might find him crouching down in the bargain bins, digging up turn-of-the-90s dance gems. Janne’s sound is firmly rooted in the 80s-tingled productions with lashing snares and angular bass lines sparking fun, uplifting vibes and tender melodies.
Resident DJs Gilet, Pigeon, Fatigue & Plum will be on hand to massage additional frequencies and bridge the gaps as only they can.
