Happy Cycling: Cycling 7
Happy Cycling is a low-key monthly music social created by a collaborative team of 4 labels – Kit Records, Cold Blow, Organic Analogue and Mythstery. The crew returns to the Servant Jazz Quarters for their seventh outing on Friday 23rd September, after taking a break for the summer. This month we welcome two wonderful guest artists to the stage – Death Is Not The End and Ambient Babestation Meltdown.
Death Is Not The End likely needs no introduction for NTS listeners and fans of esoteric and unusual reissues – few labels can lay claim to a catalogue as diverse as jamaican doo wop, recordings of the mushroom ceremonies of the mazatec indians of mexico, and two cult compilations of forgotten pirate radio station adverts among many others. The curatorial finesse that DINTE brings to all his output has won him deserved plaudits in the likes of The Guardian and The New Yorker, and we are thrilled to host him and his really big bag of crackly dub and boogie funk records for the evening.
Ambient Babestation Meltdown specialises in outsider dance from around the globe and across the eras – you’ll find her spinning new beat next to italo disco, next to rare iranian dub plates and fuzzy techno, an approach that has led to dj sets far and wide, guest appearances on the likes of Rinse FM and her debut release on Glasgow’s iconic Optimo label, out now.
Irreverent resident Djs Gilet, Pigeon, Fatigue & Plum will be on hand to interrupt these broadcasts periodically as required.
A miniature jam session with Really Big Ideas, Happy Cycling is there to instill a fleeting sense of optimism in the type of weirdos that stand in the smoking area all night moaning about how dance music “just really ain’t what it used to be”. Follow @happycyclingsocial on Insta for more. Please get tickets if you plan on coming, the venue is small and it helps us loads on the door when it gets busy later on 🙂
