Lizzie Berchie
Fresh off the back of her new EP ‘Under the Sun’, Lizzie Berchie has just announced a London show for September!
Music was always playing in the house throughout Lizzie’s childhood, whether it was her Mum and Dad playing Kojo Antwi or Bob Marley on the turntable, or her older sister blasting Destiny’s Child through their pink boombox – Lizzie still knows all the words to the ‘Destiny Fulfilled’ album that was constantly on repeat. Naturally Lizzie fell in love with music, with which she gives credit to her older sister. Lizzie’s sister was always singing and would force Lizzie to learn the harmonies to songs just so they could sing together. Their mum would always ask them to perform in the living room and would usually request India Arie’s ‘Get It Together’ or ‘His Eye Is On The Sparrow’ by Lauryn Hill and Tanya Blunt. Lizzie was shy growing up and wouldn’t speak to anyone let alone sing in front of people outside of the family. Eventually she came out of her shell and her love for jazz was sparked by singing in school musicals, jazz concerts and listening to jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Billie Holiday. Being introduced to more contemporary artists like Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway by her school music teacher Mr Sweet kick-started her love for Neo Soul and artists like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott.
Lizzie released her highly anticipated debut EP ‘Under The Sun’ on July 27th 2022. The 5 track EP
features singles ‘Pass Time’ featuring Kofi Stone, and ‘Nsala’. The tracks have gained early support from the likes of Notion, DUMMY, BBC Introducing, Radio 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova, Reprezent, The Blues Project and more. The track has also been featured in Spotify’s Chilled R&B, Fresh Finds R&B, Next Wave Neo-Soul and Kitchen Swagger playlists.
