Sansha

Sansha is the name my mum wanted to call me before I was born but she was too scared. I chose it for my alias because I’m not scared and enjoy being called Santa by accident. I make electronic pop music in my bedroom in South East London, and I’ve successfully convinced myself that my neighbours don’t find this incredibly annoying. My dad is a drama teacher and mum a music teacher so my childhood was like one long episode of glee, except I was naughty; once a judge of a violin competition told me I had a ‘bad platform manner.’ Fast forward 15 years and now I perform my songs live with a synthesiser and launchpad because I’ve broken out of my cage, mom.

BYFYN is the “thumping Synth Pop” producer and singer Ellie Isherwood. The Hertfordshire based artist is swiftly becoming known for her “quietly groundbreaking” sound, “combining left field electronics with a daring pop touch”. Her thrillingly theatrical one-woman live show was recently hailed as “the most fun you can have with your clothes on” by 6 Music’s Tom Robinson. Her main influences are Grimes, Kate Bush and Animal Collective, often being compared to synth pop heavyweight Robyn.

BYFYN began her artistic development as part of the Rising Sun Collective, a Goldsmith’s adjacent cabal of musicians, artists, filmmakers and designers. Living together in a disused pub, it was here she honed her dark and dreamy sound amongst collaborative house parties/gigs, video shoots and recording sessions. This spirit of artistic fervour at the time turned the heads of cultural gatekeepers in Noisey (VICE) and Loud & Quiet.

Born just outside of London, singer/songwriter Katherine Reilly began writing songs at 15 years old. Inspired by 80s indie females like Blondie, The Slits and Mazzy Star, Kat combines modern beats with strong melancholy vocals, to create catchy, but emotive songs that tackle subjects like mental health, love, social media and loneliness. A mouthpiece for her generation. “[Love Online] is a great record…Kat puts it together very creatively. Great song, great vibe” – Philip Lawrence, 8x Grammy Award Winner (Bruno Mars, Adele, Wiz Khalifa) “The second I pressed play on [Love Online] I was obsessed. I absolutely love the way those tight drums fit together so well with the filtered bass and 80s style synths. the verse vocal hook is so catchy and overall the lyrics show a really interesting insight into modern love” – Alfie Templeman
