Folklore presents James Brute Single Launch
A must see for anyone with a hankering for bleak-abilly blues.

James Brute returns this Autumn with a new double A-side single, Ring of Roses//The Garden. Set to drop on 17 November 2023, the release marks the band’s first new recordings since the Lost Soul Music EP in 2019.
James Brute is the band and alter-ego of James Steel, songwriter and frontman of 2000s East London darlings The Brute Chorus. Steel’s musical narratives of love, loss and lust have delved into ever darker and more mysterious regions since the release of the first single Bury Yourself in 2014. The warp and weft of the songs speak to the basest of our human instincts, pulling on themes and characters both ancient and modern; arcane and mundane.
Steel is backed here by a formidable band of long-term collaborators. Their live shows and recordings lend a singularly loose and increasingly heavy vibe to their slung-out and strung-out psychedelic/post-blues style.
Ring of Roses//The Garden was recorded by Sean Woodlock (La Shark, Part Chimp) at Hackney Road Studios and mixed by Olly Betts (The Duke Spirit, Furs, 0h800) at The Crow’s Nest. The single is released on 17 November 2023.
